Working on Ærø
Ærø has a relatively high ratio of both public
and private workplaces for an island its size. But you should think
big, broad and ahead if you're looking for work.
If you're not coming to Ærø because of a new job, you must be
prepared to think out of the box. You may be lucky and find
employment straight away - there is quite a lot of work on Ærø
considering the fact that it is a relatively small island - but
it's more likely that you'll have to look around for a bit.
Through the times, both Danish and foreign newcomers have found
employment on and around Ærø. A large part of newcomers to Ærø do
so because they have deliberately chosen a change of pace, career
or values; and so landing on Ærø is part of a transition that
should eventually lead to an ideal situation. During that
transition period it's quite normal to take whatever work is
available, work several jobs - or perhaps commute to workplaces
outside the island.
Whatever you choose to do, we advise you to be flexible,
imaginative and open: Meet people, make it generally known on
street level that you're looking for work. Personal contact matters
on Ærø and so you may benefit if you take the time to set up
personal meetings with managers around the island and generally
make a point out of showing yourself.
